Surprise surprise, it turns out not all UPFs are the devil ! While some have jumped to the conclusion that we should give up on the UPF scare because some of them are ok... what the study actually says is that:
1๏ธโฃ "higher consumption of UPF was associated with a higher risk of multimorbidity of cancer and cardiometabolic diseases"
2๏ธโฃ "higher intakes of artificially and sugar-sweetened beverages, and animal-based products were associated with higher risk of multimorbidity"
3๏ธโฃ the data "suggests that UPF consumption plays a role in the development of cancer and cardiometabolic disease multimorbidity beyond the nutritional characteristics of UPFs"
In short: there are shades of grey, and both UPF and nutritional value should be considered together.
That's exactly what we do to score products in the GoCoCo App, using 3 criteria: WHO, NOVA, Chilean warnings.

Tip of the day: "Improve the appearance of plant-rich dishes". There are many simple, science-based and pragmatic recommendations like this one to promote sustainable food choices in this playbook authored by Daniele Pollicina , Stacy Blondin and Sophie Attwood.
Let's not beat around the bush, the approach is to reduce the consumption of animal-based products.
This playbook goes far beyond the obvious "Train chefs". It covers many areas and plenty of cost-effective low-hanging fruit to kick off. So, got (soy) milk?
